Lines & Wrinkles Consultation Adelaide
Concerned about frown lines, forehead lines or crow's feet? Request a lines and wrinkles consultation in Adelaide with a registered practitioner.
Lines around the eyes, between the brows and across the forehead are among the most common reasons people in Adelaide ask for a cosmetic consultation. A lines and wrinkles consultation is where a registered health practitioner looks at what's causing your lines, explains which options may be suitable, and talks through risks, costs and alternatives — including leaving things as they are.
DermaFox Aesthetics arranges consultations and is not itself a medical or cosmetic practitioner. Any treatment decision is made with the registered health practitioner who assesses you.
Expression lines and static lines
Not all lines are the same, and the difference matters when options are discussed.
- Expression (dynamic) lines appear when you move your face — frowning, raising your brows, smiling or squinting. Common examples are the vertical lines between the brows, horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes.
- Static lines are visible when your face is at rest. They often develop over years as expression lines deepen and the skin changes.
Many people have a mix of both, and the mix changes over time.
Why lines form: sun and skin ageing
Several factors contribute to lines and wrinkles:
- Sun exposure — ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a major cause of skin ageing. Adelaide’s long, bright summers and outdoor lifestyle mean many people have years of cumulative sun exposure, even with good habits.
- Skin ageing over time — skin gradually becomes thinner, drier and less elastic with age.
- Repeated facial movement — the expressions you make every day.
- Smoking, genetics and general health — all of which affect how skin ages.
Some of these can be influenced (sun protection, not smoking) and some can’t. A good consultation is honest about which is which.
What’s assessed
At a lines and wrinkles consultation, expect the practitioner to:
- Take your health history, including medicines, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any previous cosmetic treatments
- Look at your face at rest and while you make different expressions
- Assess your skin type, sun damage, texture and pigmentation
- Ask what bothers you most and what you’d like to change
- Explain what is realistic for your skin and what isn’t
Options that may be discussed
Depending on your assessment, options may include:
- Skincare and sun protection — daily broad-spectrum sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses, and a skincare routine suited to your skin. For prescription skincare, your GP or dermatologist can discuss medical options.
- Skin treatments — for example chemical peels or skin needling, which focus on skin texture and surface lines. Our skin and laser treatments hub covers other options.
- Options that can only be discussed in a consultation — some options involve prescription medicines, which can only be considered after an in-person consultation with an appropriately qualified, registered health practitioner.
- Referral to a dermatologist or other specialist where appropriate.
- No treatment — always a valid choice.
Risks and suitability
Every cosmetic procedure carries risk, and results vary from person to person. Depending on the option, risks can include redness, swelling, bruising, discomfort, infection, pigment changes, asymmetry and an outcome that isn’t what you hoped for. Your practitioner should explain the specific risks and possible complications of each option, and what happens if something doesn’t go to plan. Recovery varies; your practitioner will explain what to expect.
Some options may not suit you if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain medical conditions, have an active skin infection, or take certain medicines. Be open about your full health history.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a lines and wrinkles consultation cost?
Requesting a consultation is free and there's no obligation. Any consultation fee is set by the practitioner and confirmed before you book, and treatment costs are only quoted in writing after you've been assessed.
Can you tell me which product will be used?
That's only discussed with the practitioner during the consultation, because prescription medicines can't be advertised to the public in Australia.
What's the difference between expression lines and static lines?
Expression lines appear when you move your face, such as frowning or squinting. Static lines are visible when your face is at rest. They often have different contributing causes, so they may be approached differently.
Can skincare help with fine lines?
Daily broad-spectrum sun protection and a consistent skincare routine are the foundations of skin health, and your practitioner can talk you through what may suit your skin. How much difference they make varies between people.
Do I have to have treatment after the consultation?
No. A consultation is for information and assessment. Doing nothing is always an option, and you should be given time to think before deciding anything.
