Risks and suitability

Possible side effects include redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, bruising, infection, flare-ups of cold sores, breakouts, and lighter or darker patches of skin; scarring is possible. RF microneedling may also cause burns. You may not be suitable, or may need to wait, if you:

• Have active acne, eczema, psoriasis or rosacea flares in the area
• Have recently used, or are using, certain prescription acne or skin medicines — tell your practitioner about all medicines you use
• Have open wounds, a cold-sore outbreak or a skin infection
• Are pregnant, have a tendency to keloid scarring, or have certain medical conditions

People with darker skin types have a higher risk of pigment changes, so device choice and settings matter. Recovery varies; your practitioner will explain what to expect.
